Matching the interface is the single most common reason a replacement panel does not work. Two panels can share size and resolution and still be incompatible. This note explains how to identify the interface in three steps, using only what is printed on the panel and the shape of the connector.
Every panel has a label with the model number and, usually, the interface. LG Display laptop panels use a prefix that tells you the family: LP for laptop, LM for monitor, LB for industrial/automotive, LD for narrow-bezel and industrial formats. The label also states the resolution and, on most modern parts, an interface line such as “eDP 30 pin” or “LVDS”.
eDP connectors are fine-pitch, usually 30 or 40 pins, and the cable ends in a flat FPC with a metal latch. LVDS connectors are wider with 30 or 40 pins on a 0.5 mm pitch and are commonly paired with a thicker cable bundle. A 40-pin connector almost always means 4-lane eDP on panels from 2015 onwards; 30-pin means 2-lane eDP or LVDS depending on generation.
Two 30-pin connectors are not necessarily wired the same. eDP carries differential lane pairs plus AUX channel and hot-plug detect; LVDS carries pairs of data and clock with a separate backlight connector. Before ordering, compare the pin definition in the datasheet with the host board — one wrong pin can destroy the panel or the mainboard.
| Interface | Typical pins | Used for | Notes when replacing |
|---|---|---|---|
| eDP | 30 / 40 | Laptops 2013 onwards, monitors | Lane count and AUX must match; 30-pin cannot replace 40-pin 4-lane |
| LVDS | 30 / 40 | Older laptops, industrial panels | Single vs dual channel matters; often separate backlight harness |
| MIPI DSI | 20–40 | Tablets, embedded, small industrial | Rarely interchangeable with eDP even at the same size |
| V-by-One HS | 41 / 51 | Large monitor and TV panels | Needs a matching T-con board and power sequencing |
If you are unsure, send three things and we will confirm compatibility before you order: a photo of the panel label, a photo of the connector on the cable, and the laptop or device model. We check this against the datasheet and, if needed, against a panel from the same batch — it is faster than returning a wrong part.
Send the photos and the device model — we will reply with the matching parts and the alternatives we hold.
